Temporary Staffing Agencies – How to Overcome the Challenges

Posted by Aaron Zahedani on Fri, Jul 25, 2014 @ 08:00 AM

In our last blog, we discussed the benefits of invoice factoring, and payroll advance when it comes to helping your temporary staffing agency grow, and keeping your temporary staff happy. Now let’s consider some of the challenges that can often stand in the way of success.

Temporary Staffing Agencies In a recent article in the Houston Chronicle online edition www.Chron.com, Kay Miranda discusses some of the problems faced by temporary staffing agencies. She mentions the importance of maintaining a large enough talent pool to serve the staffing needs of the demographic area. Temporary staffing has grown to include many specialist industries, such as healthcare and IT, and the demand for talent has become extremely competitive. This also means that the agency needs to be employing experts in their chosen field to adequately interview and hire temporary staff that will meet the needs of their clients.

As a temporary staffing agency, you are obviously evaluated by the strength of your temporary staff. Kay Miranda brings up a valuable point about the possibility of applicants embellishing their resumes in order to earn a high pay scale, or just get the job over their competitors. This brings us back to the importance of qualified staff within your agency. Applicants need to be adequately screened, not only on their level of qualification for each role, but also their ability to fit in quickly to a temporary role without too much training.

The article gives the following advice:

  • Thoroughly confirm skills and experience (beyond the interview)
  • Screen office support with typing and computer skills assessments
  • Validate work history with previous employers
  • Don’t skip the process in times of extreme demand

Keeping your temporary staff motivated to come back can also be accomplished with competitive pay, incentives for exceptional performance, extensive training and a willingness to listen. You cannot guarantee your temporary staff will return, but you can do as much as possible to retain them. There is always the possibility of losing the companies that hire you to your competitors who are willing to charge less, but ultimately it is about performance, and not always about the best price.

To return to finances, there is no doubt that on-time payment counts for so much when encouraging your temporary staff to stay loyal. Bay View Funding has an outstanding payroll advance program that helps keep you on track when it comes to timely payment of your temporary staff.
